Greetings Barclay Family!

Welcome Back!!! I hope that everyone had a safe and restful summer break. As we prepare to start our SY 20-21, I want to ensure that you have all the information needed to start our virtual learning experience. The fall semester will be more rigorous and have greater expectations for teaching and learning. In order to meet these expectations, it will require a strong partnership between the school, families and our community. We have added additional tools to ensure you have consistent and timely information and responses from us. Providing daily routines and consistency at home will be essential to students’ success. We are here to help with any supports needed. Please carefully read the information below. We look forward to a positive and successful school year.

School Start Date and Time

Students return to school virtually on September 8, 2020. School will begin at 9:00 a.m.  Please note that the instructional day may vary by grade level. You will receive student schedules with end times as soon as they are approved, but school will begin at 9:00 a.m. for every student.

Device Distribution

Student devices will be distributed at schools the week of August 26th. If you have not received a device at this time and need one, the school will be reaching out via phone to collect this information OR you can email Principal Carr at [email protected] .We will share pick up dates and times based on your responses.

Uniforms

Because we are beginning our year virtually, students will not be required to be in a school uniform for learning at home. I do suggest purchasing a few uniforms for students for when we return. We are anticipating an October return, but that is being determined by our district’s CEO. To ensure students are prepared for an in-person return to school, uniforms will be required.

Uniforms are important to ensure safety and clear identification of students as they travel through the community and school building. The uniforms are the same from last year. School Logos ARE NOT needed or required for shirts.

All students: Khaki bottoms and Navy-Blue tops

Enrollment

Enrolling Students

  • If you have a child that is new to Baltimore City Public Schools or returning from another school district, please complete the following steps:
  1. Email our new school secretary Ms. Dingle [email protected] and share your intent to enroll. She will ensure that you are following the right process and can alert central office of your plan to enroll. Once you speak with them, complete step 2.
  2. Families new to the district OR returning to the districtMUST follow the link on the main page of the City Schools website(https://baltimore.infinitecampus.org/campus/OLRLogin/bcps). Please contact Ms. Dingle again when you have completed entering information. If you have any issues, please contact Ms. Dingle immediately.
  3. Families seeking to Transfer to Barclay from another City SchoolMUST follow the link on the Campus/Parent Portal(https://www.baltimorecityschools.org/campus-portal). Please contact Ms. Dingle again when you have completed entering information. If you have any issues, please contact Ms. Dingle immediately.

*Please do not wait until the last minute to complete these processes because schools are still closed and some central office teams are working with smaller staff numbers, which may cause a delay in processing.

Class Assignments

Class assignments and schedules are still being created and will require approval before being distributed to staff or families. Schedules will be provided during the week of August 26, 2020 when teachers return. This will allow teachers the opportunity to share and discuss with all families, as needed.

Family Orientation

Family orientation will be held virtually on September 2, 2020 at 6:30 pm.  During family orientation, we will share important information on using the technology to access the online learning classrooms with teachers, discussion of the curriculum, assessments that students will take this year, and your role in supporting instruction at home for students. More information will be provided the week of August 26th.

School Supplies

Because we are learning virtually, there will be very little supplies listed for family purchase. Since there are some curriculum materials (not supplies) that will be provided by our district, students are not expected to purchase an abundance of materials for home. We will have supply distribution on: Thursday September 3, 2020 for grades Pre-K-3 and Friday September 4, 2020 for grades 4-8 from 12:00 pm-3:00 pm.

There are components in the curriculum that may require some additional materials but at this time, we only want to focus on the basic items needed to begin the year. Click here for the school supply lists or view them below.

If you have any questions, please call us at 410-396-6387 or email Principal Carr at [email protected] Please enjoy the rest of the summer and BELIEVE that we are doing our absolute best to prepare for an amazing start to the new school year and look forward to seeing you soon!

With Much Excitement,
